Count the objects and tap the right number!
Counting is the very first mathematical skill children develop, and it forms the foundation for everything that follows in mathematics. When children learn to count, they are not just memorizing a sequence of words โ they are developing one-to-one correspondence (matching each object to exactly one number), cardinality (understanding that the last number counted tells how many there are), and number conservation (knowing that the number of objects stays the same regardless of how they are arranged).
Research in early childhood education shows that children who develop strong counting skills in kindergarten perform better in math throughout elementary school. The Common Core State Standards for Mathematics expect kindergartners to count to 100 by ones and tens, count objects up to 20, and compare numbers. Our counting game provides engaging practice with counting objects from 1 to 20, reinforcing these foundational skills through a colorful, interactive experience.
Count everything! Steps on the stairs, grapes on a plate, cars in the parking lot. The more real-world counting practice children get, the stronger their number sense becomes. When playing this game, encourage your child to touch or point to each object as they count it โ this reinforces the one-to-one correspondence that is critical for accurate counting. If your child makes an error, gently encourage them to count again rather than giving the answer. The process of self-correction builds mathematical reasoning.
