Practice math facts with pictures!
Addition and subtraction are the two foundational operations of mathematics. Mastering these skills in 1st and 2nd grade sets the stage for multiplication, division, fractions, and all the math that follows. The Common Core State Standards expect 1st graders to add and subtract within 20 and understand the relationship between addition and subtraction. By the end of 2nd grade, students should fluently add and subtract within 20 and work with numbers up to 100.
Our tool supports learning through visual representations. When children see 5 apples plus 3 more apples and can count to get 8, they build a conceptual understanding that is much stronger than just memorizing "5 + 3 = 8." The visual model helps children understand what addition and subtraction actually mean, not just how to compute them. This conceptual foundation makes it easier to learn larger numbers and more complex operations later.
Fact fluency โ the ability to quickly and accurately recall basic math facts โ develops through understanding first, then practice. Children should not be asked to memorize facts they do not understand. Our tool provides the visual scaffolding that builds understanding, then offers repeated practice with immediate feedback to build speed and accuracy. The three difficulty levels allow children to progress at their own pace, starting with numbers up to 10 and advancing to 20 when they are ready.
