[Update] Angry Birds - Angry Birds holds the No. 1 slot on the paid charts for the second week in a row, starting off 2012 well for Rovio. The $0.99 game is continuing to hold its popularity even though players already downloaded more than 6.5 million copies of various Angry Birds games on Christmas Day alone.

Streetbike: Full Blast – New blood finds our charts this week in the No. 5 position, with Chillingo’s new game Streetbike: Full Blast. Developed by Korean studio Turtles Entertainment, the $0.99 game is an arcade style racing game with full 3D graphics. The game includes Game Center support and additional levels and content can be unlocked through additional $0.99 in-app purchases.

Dot Lock Security – Protect your Media & Files - Independent developer BAI’s security app Dot Lock Security takes the No. 13 spot on the paid charts this week. The app is a password-protected photo, note and video storage application that allows users to protect “sensitive” media with a password. The $0.99 app sends email notifications of break-in attempts and can even take photos of intruders with the front-facing camera on more recent iPhone models.

Monkey Quest: Thunderbow – Moving down to the middle of the charts, MTV Networks’ new game Monkey Quest: Thunderbow makes a solid debut in the No. 24 position. A combination of Angry Birds and big explosions, the game is a physics-based puzzler with fully destructible environments. Monkey Quest: Thunderbow was released at the end of December and is currently on sale for $0.99.

Color Texting for iMessages – The utility from independent developer Apps4Life closes out the iPhone charts in the No. 28 spot. Despite its name, Color Texting for iMessages doesn’t send text messages — the app is actually an image editor that allows users to create text messages with different colors and then send them to their friends as pictures messages with an iPhone’s real text messaging app. Color Texting for iMessages costs $0.99.

Living Earth HD – World Clock and Weather – Moshen Chan’s utility Living Earth HD – World Clock and Weather leads our iPad charts in the No. 4 position after dropping its price to $0.99. Apple’s pick for best iPhone and iPad utility in its 2011 App Store Rewind feature, the app shows a live 3D simulation of the earth based on global weather reports and real-time satellite cloud data.

[Update] Machinarium - Amanita Design’s iPad 2 only game Machinarium makes a return to the paid iPad charts this week in the No. 8 spot, thanks to a limited time sale that dropped the award-winning game’s price to $1.99. Now back at its regular price of $4.99, the game was last updated on Oct. 24 for minor bug fixes.

Trivial Pursuit Master Edition for iPad – While most of EA’s titles are beginning to slip down the paid charts, the company’s $0.99 holiday sale is going on until this weekend and some titles are still doing brisk business. EA’s adaptation of its classic board game Trivial Pursuit is this week’s No. 27 paid iPad app. On sale for $0.99, Trivial Pursuit Master Edition for iPad has both single and multiplayer modes, but true Trivial Pursuit fanatics may find the game a bit too easy, as all the questions are now multiple choice due to the iPad interface.

Phraseology – Writing utility Phraseology scoops the No. 38 spot this week with an introductory sale price of $1.99. Billing itself as half text editor, half word processor, Phraseology is an easy-to-use writing app that allows writers to rearrange the order of text with drag and drop functions, rather than cut and paste. Users can also tweet from the app, print to AirPrint devices and customize fonts and font sizes. Phraseology was developed by Texas-based Agile Tortoise and was released on Dec. 29.

LostWinds – Cambridge-based Frontier Developments makes the paid iPad charts this week with a solid debut of its latest game LostWinds in the No. 40 position. A platformer with puzzle elements, the game lets players control a Wind Spirit tasked with protecting a magical young boy who can help save the world from a terrible curse. LostWinds costs $3.99 and was released on Dec. 21.
